Welcome to the AstroPix public image gallery for the Eta Carinae binary star system, the Challenge target for the Summer 2022 edition of NASA’s Astrophoto Challenges. Eta Carinae contains one of the most massive stars in the Milky Way galaxy, situated at the heart of the extensive star-forming region known as the Carina Nebula. Many different telescopes on Earth and in space have captured image data of this region at many different scales, wavelengths, and resolutions. Use these public release images from professional observatories to compare to the images you create yourself for NASA’s Astrophoto Challenges. You'll notice that the creators of these professional astrophotos use many different image processing techniques, color choices, and descriptive captions to bring out details and to communicate the scientific story told by the data.
