This tapestry of galaxies represents a small piece of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field (HUDF), taken from September 2003 through January 2004 by the Hubble Space Telescope. The HUDF is the deepest visible-light view of the cosmos and includes galaxies of various ages, sizes, shapes, and colors. The image is part of an exploration activity for students at a NASA education workshop planned for Queen Elizabeth II's visit. Students will study the HUDF image and classify the galaxies by shape and color. By analyzing the HUDF image, students will learn how light is used to explore the universe.
